Emptiness Not for Everyone (# 1074)

1 11 2016
  1. I am listening to a recording of The Essence of the Heart Sutra by the Dalai Lama. At the beginning of the book he discusses the world’s great religions. He sees them as basically the same. He also quotes the Buddha that different people have different needs. A skillful teacher will pick the right teaching for a particular individual. This gets us to the zinger. The Dalai Lama mentions that most westerners want him to teach them about emptiness. The Dalai lama believes that this concept can be dangerous for some, especially those faith based religions believing in a God. Considering the last two posts in this blog, this is useful to consider.
