Dear Fellow Travellers in PaB,
What do you may not know about Adams Rubble and and the Real Life me?
I have read that people in zen communities find that their fellow zen acquaintances are their closest but least known friends. Closest in that they share their deepest experiences. Yet they know little about each others’ personal lives. I have found that in the short time I have been in the PaB community, this has been so. I already have learned much from many of you and I think of you as dear friends.
Adams Rubble is a second life “avatar” and the “vehicle” for my personal quest. Adams is a bit like a fictional literary character in that she has her own personality, style and goals. In one sense she is an actor in a real time play and in real life, Adams has worshipped at Christian Churches, gone on the Hajj, followed rituals at a Daoist Temple and a Shinto Shrine, prayed at a Jewish Synagogue, explored every Buddhist site she could find, and finally now has found good friends at the Zen Retreat and the PaB project.
In real life I am an Art Historian/image librarian. In this capacity I have been working with images of Chinese and Japanese Art, mostly Buddhist, for over 15 years. When I sat in on a class on Buddhist Art, I was as enthralled as much by Buddhism as the art. I immediately accepted the wisdom of the basic tenets and they have been with me. In that sense I have been a closet Buddhist for 15 years. But there is a cultural gap and the usual excuses and procrastination to changing ones approach. I am looking for tools to help me learn to stay on the “path” and also feed spiritual needs.
